Over 1,000 Refugees Returned to Syria From Abroad Over Past 24 Hours - Russian Military

Over 1,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country from abroad over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees said on Thursday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 03rd January, 2019) Over 1,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country from abroad over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees said on Thursday.

"Over the past day, a total of 1,023 refugees returned to the Syrian Arab Republic from the territory of foreign states: 325 people (105 women and 180 children) left Lebanon for Syria via the Jaydet-Yabus and Talkalakh checkpoints, and 671 people (201 woman and 342 children) left Jordan for Syria via the Nasib checkpoint," the center said in its daily bulletin.

A total of 86,537 refugees have returned to Syria from Lebanon and Jordan since July 18, 2018, the center added.

According to the bulletin, 197 internally displaced Syrians have returned to their homes in the provinces of Damascus, Deir ez-Zor, and Homs over the period.

Syrian engineering units have cleared of mines over 11 hectares (27.1 acres) of land, destroying 32 explosive devices, the center said.

As the Syrian government has regained control over most of the country's territories that were seized by terrorists, it is now focused on creating favorable conditions for actively repatriating refugees. Moscow is assisting Damascus in this, while it also provides humanitarian aid to civilians, and is a guarantor of the ceasefire, along with Turkey and Iran.
