Over 110 People Accused in Bahrain of Creating Pro-Iranian Group - Prosecutor

More than 110 people have been charged in Bahrain over creating the Shia organization Bahraini Hezbollah, which is thought to be pro-Iranian, the country's prosecutor, Ahmed Hamadi, said Wednesday.

DOHA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 26th September, 2018) More than 110 people have been charged in Bahrain over creating the Shia organization Bahraini Hezbollah, which is thought to be pro-Iranian, the country's prosecutor, Ahmed Hamadi, said Wednesday.

"The prosecutor's office completed the investigation into creation of a terror group called Bahraini Hezbollah, the court received documents on accusation of 169 people, with 111 of them having been detained," Hamadi told the Bahrain news Agency.

The detained people are accused of creating a terror organization, planned murders, production and use of explosives, possession of weapons without license as well as financing terror groups.

The court will hear the case on October 3.

Since 2011, the Sunni authorities in Bahrain have been facing a struggle with an opposition movement led primarily by Shias, who form the majority in the country. The opposition calls for political freedom, equality and a parliamentary system that operates independently of Bahrain's Sunni royal family.
