Over 1,200 Refugees Return to Syria From Abroad Over Past 24 Hours - Reconciliation Center

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 13th January, 2019) Over 1,200 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country from Jordan and Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides and Refugee Migration Monitoring in Syria said on Sunday.

"Over the past 24 hours, a total of 1,262 refugees returned to the Syrian Arab Republic from the territory of foreign states: 442 people (133 women and 225 children) left Lebanon for Syria via the Jaydet-Yabus and Talkalakh checkpoints; 820 people (246 women and 418 children) returned from Jordan via the Nassib checkpoint," the center said in its bulletin.

Apart from this, 237 internally displaced Syrians have returned to their places of residence within the country over the given period.

The bulletin also noted that there was no withdrawal of refugees from the Idlib de-escalation zone over the last 24 hours.

The Syrian engineering units have cleared of mines over 12.6 hectares (29.7 acres) of land in the provinces of Quneitra, Homs and Damascus, destroying 34 explosive devices, including two improvised ones.

Syria is currently engaged in post-war reconstruction and has already welcomed back tens of thousands of refugees who were forced to seek asylum in other countries over the course of the war. More than 96,000 people have returned to Syria from neighboring Jordan and Lebanon since July, according to the refugee center.
