A total of 204 Syrians returned to their homes from Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Settlement said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) A total of 204 Syrians returned to their homes from Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Settlement said Tuesday.

"Over the past day, in total 204 people (61 women and 104 children) left Lebanon for Syria via the Jaydet-Yabus CP [checkpoint]. Since July 18, 2018, in total 6,889 refugees have left Lebanon, with 3,008 of them - via the Zemrani CP, Jaydet-Yabus - 2,894 people, 644 people via al-Dabusiyah and 343 people via the al-Qusayr. In total 318 people have passed via the Nasib CP from Jordan," the refugee center said in a statement.

The center added that over the past 24 hours, 316 displaced Syrians came home, with 189 of them returning to Homs province, 85 - to Eastern Ghouta, and 42 people - to Khusham in Deir ez-Zor province.

"Since September 30, 2015, in total 1,217,399 IDPs [internally displaced people] have returned back to their homes in the Syrian Arab Republic (365,219 women, 620,873 children)," the statement said.

Syria has been torn by civil war since 2011, with the government fighting numerous opposition groups and terrorist organizations. Russia is assisting the country in returning to peaceful life, being a guarantor of the ceasefire regime and having announced in late July the creation of a refugee center in Syria that will receive, relocate and accommodate civilians returning home.
