MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) At least 35 security personnel were killed in clashes with the militants of the Taliban radical movement in Afghanistan's western province of Farah, the Afghan Pajhwok news agency reported on Thursday, without providing further details.
Meanwhile, the TOLOnews broadcaster said that at least three security checkpoints in the province were taken by Taliban militants on Wednesday night.
According to the news outlet, the security forces have confirmed that they suffered losses in clashes with the Taliban, however, have not specified the number of victims.
Farah province has been among the areas most vulnerable to the Taliban's simmering insurgency.
Afghanistan has been struggling to achieve stability for years as central authorities have been fighting the Taliban and a number of terrorist organizations, including the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) that are attempting to gain a foothold in the country.
