Over 40 People Detained In Counterterrorism Operation In Bulgaria - Reports

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th January, 2019) The Bulgarian security forces detained 43 people across the country during an operation against the financing of international terrorism, local media reported Friday, citing sources.

According to the BTA news agency, the operation is being carried out in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, as well as in the cities of Blagoevgrad, Razgrad, Haskovo, Plovdiv and Lovech.

The raid comes following reports on unregulated large money transfers made to and from Bulgaria using illegal payment system.

The news agency reported that 126 permits for searches of offices, houses, vehicles and people were issued by a court. About 32,000 Euros ($36,400), documents and other evidence were seized.

A mastermind of the criminal scheme, a Syrian national residing in Bulgaria, was detained in Sofia, the news agency said.
