Over 500 Migrants Saved In Mediterranean Near Spanish Coast Over Weekend - Rescue Agency

MADRID (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th September, 2018) The Spanish Maritime Safety and Rescue Society (SASEMAR) said that it had saved more than 500 migrants over the weekend who were heading to Spain via the Mediterranean Sea.
SASEMAR said that on Saturday, 381 migrants on 10 boats were rescued on the Andalusian coast, and 12 people on one boat were saved in the Balearic Islands.
In addition, on Sunday SASEMAR reported saving 117 migrants on two boats in the Alboran Sea.
According to the International Organization for Migration, Spain currently tops the list of Mediterranean countries by the number of migrant sea arrivals, with over 25,000 migrants arriving in the country since the beginning of the year.
Over 78,000 migrants have arrived in Europe by sea in 2018, and more than 1,700 people are reported dead or missing.
