Over 60,000 law enforcement officers will maintain security at yellow vest rallies across France on Saturday, French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said on Friday
Paris police have again banned yellow vest protesters from gathering this Saturday near the presidential residence, the parliament and on the Champs Elysees as well as near the Notre Dame cathedral that has recently suffered from a massive fire.
"More than 60,000 police officers and gendarmes will be mobilized across France," Castaner said as quoted by BFMTV broadcaster.
The minister noted that riots were possible in Toulouse, Montpellier, Bordeaux and Paris.
The wave of the yellow vest rallies started in France in mid-November over planned hikes in fuel taxes. While the French government abandoned its plans to raise fuel taxes and introduced other measures to improve the country's socioeconomic situation, protesters continue to take to the streets across France every weekend for demonstrations to express their discontent with the government's policies.
