Over 700 Syrians Return to Homeland From Abroad Over Past 24 Hours - Refugee Center

Over 700 Syrian refugees, including 359 minors, have returned to their home country from Jordan and Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees said on Tuesday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) Over 700 Syrian refugees, including 359 minors, have returned to their home country from Jordan and Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees said on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, in total 704 people returned to the Syrian Arab Republic from the territory of foreign states: 192 people (58 women and 98 children) left Lebanon for Syria via the Jaydet-Yabus and Talkalakh CPs [checkpoints], and 512 people (154 women and 261 children) from Jordan via the Nasib CP," the center said in its daily bulletin.

As many as 255 internally displaced Syrians returned to their homes over the period, the center added.

The bulletin added that the Russian Chechen Republic's Akhmad Kadyrov Foundation carried out a humanitarian operation in the town of Abu al-Duhur in Idlib province, delivering a tonne of bread to local residents.

Russia has also held two humanitarian operations in the Syrian provinces of Daraa and Homs.

Syria, which has been suffering from an armed conflict for more than seven years, is now focused on the repatriation of refugees, who were forced to flee the armed conflict and seek asylum in other countries, and the reconstruction of infrastructure. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), over 6.6 million officially registered Syrian refugees are currently residing abroad.
