Former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos' attorneys have filed a motion to withdraw from his case in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Trump-Russia probe now that he has been sentenced and hired other lawyers, a court filing revealed on Tuesday.
"Thomas M. Breen and Robert W. Stanley, counsel of record for Defendant George Papadopoulos, respectfully move this Honorable Court to enter an order withdrawing their appearances as attorneys of record in the above captioned matter," the filing said.
Papadopoulos' attorneys explained that his criminal case is over and the time to file an appeal has passed.
Moreover, the attorneys said he hired other counsel to assist him with any issues related to the criminal case following the sentencing.
In September, Papadopoulos received a 14 day jail sentence in exchange for agreeing to cooperate with Mueller's probe of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Papadopoulos also received one year of supervised release, 200 hours of community service and ordered to pay a $9,500 fine.
Russia has denied all allegations of election meddling and collusion with the Trump campaign.
