Paris Discussing Ways To Reach Stability In Syria's North With Partners - Foreign Ministry

France is committed to ensuring stability in northeastern Syria and remains in contact with its partners to discuss the best ways to achieve this goal, a spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday
"Our priority is the final and full victory over Islamic State [terrorist group, outlawed in Russia]. We are committed to maintaining stability in northeastern Syria, supporting the [Kurdish-led] Syrian Democratic Forces and ensuring the protection of rights of local residents ... We remain in contact with all our international and regional partners under the coalition to look for the best ways to achieve each of these goals," the spokesperson said at a press briefing.
The situation in northern Syria remains tense over the conflict between the Kurds, who live in the region, and neighboring Turkey.
In December, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Ankara was ready to launch a military operation against Kurdish fighters on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River as well as in Syria's Manbij, located near the Turkish border, if the United States did not remove the militia from there.
Following a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on December 14, Erdogan said that the start of the military operation in Syria would be postponed. Just days after this phone call, Trump announced that US troops would be withdrawn from the Arab republic.
