MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th September, 2018) A participant of an unauthorized rally in Moscow hit on Sunday a police officer, senior assistant to the head of the Russian Investigative Committee's Main Moscow Department Yulia Ivanova told Sputnik.

"According to investigators, on September 9, 2018, a police officer received a blow to the head from a man taking part in the unauthorized rally in central Moscow in response to his legitimate demands," Ivanova said.

She pointed out that the criminal case over the incident had already been opened.

On Saturday, rallies against the proposed changes in the pension legislation took place in a number of Russian cities. Earlier in the day, senior official of the Russian Interior Ministry Yury Valyaev said that about 100 people were detained in Moscow and St.

Petersburg. Some people were also detained in the cities of Yekaterinburg and Volgograd.

On July 19, the Russian State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill on changes to the pension law. The bill proposed raising the retirement age from 60 to 65 years for men and from 55 to 63 years for women. The changes are expected to be implemented gradually starting from 2019.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma amendments to the bill on improving the pension system. The president's amendments have softened the proposed changes in the legislation, particularly, reducing the future retirement age for women from 63 to 60.
