Pashinyan's Alliance Gets 88 of Armenian Parliament's 132 Seats - Election Commission

YEREVAN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th December, 2018) Acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's My Step Alliance received 88 of the parliament's 132 seats as a result of the snap parliamentary election that was held in the country on December 9, Armenian Central Election Commission (CEC) President Tigran Mukuchyan said on Sunday.

Last Sunday, early parliamentary election was held in Armenia, with two blocks and nine parties competing. Pashinyan's My Step Alliance won by securing over 70 percent of the vote, while the former ruling Republican Party failed to pass the 5-percent threshold to get into the parliament.

"Armenia's seventh parliament will comprise 132 lawmakers.

My Step bloc will receive 88 seats, Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia parties will receive 26 and 18 seats, respectively," Mukuchyan said at a CEC session.

Under the Armenian law, the country's president appoints the candidate suggested by the parliamentary majority as prime minister just after the beginning of the National Assembly's new term of office.

The country's government, in turn, is due to be formed in 15 days after the prime minister's appointment, after which the prime minister has 20 days to submit the cabinet's policy program to the parliament.
