Visitors to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington, DC are bringing flowers to show solidarity with the Sri Lankan people after Easter Sunday's deadly terrorist attacks that killed nearly 300 people
On Easter Sunday, Sri Lanka's Capital Colombo was hit by a series of coordinated bombings in churches and hotels that killed at least 290 people and left another 500 injured. On Monday, local media reported that another explosion took place near St. Anthony's church in the capital Colombo.
Several bouquets have been laid outside the Sri Lankan Embassy, some with inscriptions of support saying "Our hearts are with you."
An embassy representative told Sputnik that a book of condolences will be opened on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the embassy has lowered the Sri Lankan flag to fly at half-staff.
Sri Lanka has launched a massive security operation in the wake of the bombings and detained at least 24 suspects. The authorities introduced and re-introduced curfew and deployed 1,000 troops in Colombo.
