MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th November, 2018) The Kremlin has familiarized itself with media reports about Russian President Vladimir Putin's "bodyguards" allegedly being given hectares of land, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday, stressing that the Kremlin relied on their wealth declarations, "thoroughly verified" by relevant government agencies.
The Russian Novaya Gazeta newspaper published an article on Monday about Putin's former bodyguards allegedly receiving high-value lands.
"We read this article. It mentions people who occupy posts that are subject to a rather detailed and complicated annual [wealth] declaration.
Each year, these people declare their income, expenses, bank accounts, property, and this information is very thoroughly verified by relevant departments of our respective special agencies. This is, perhaps, the fundamental factor. We focus exactly on the results of this verification, on the accuracy of declared data," Peskov told reporters.
Aside from land lots, Novaya Gazeta also claimed that Putin's former bodyguards had been rewarded for their service with appointments to key posts.
