WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th September, 2018) The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) office closed this week in Washington, DC but it could reopen if progress was made toward peace between Palestinians and Israel, US Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a press briefing on Tuesday.
"The office could reopen in the future, they could, but we would certainly like them to take some meaningful steps in that direction of advancing peace," Nauert told reporters.
The Trump administration announced the closure of the PLO office on Monday because the organization is not working to restart negotiations with Israel.
The State Department said in a press release also on Monday that the PLO office had been allowed to stay open only to work on operations that support the goal of peace since a previous waiver expired on November 2017.
