Pompeo Asks UN To Take Action Against Cuban Diplomats For Disrupting Event

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th October, 2018) The US government asked the United Nations to take action against Cuban diplomats for disrupting a UN-sponsored event about the plight of political prisoners, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said during a press briefing.

"Last week, a delegation of Cuban diplomats threw a childish temper tantrum at a UN-sponsored gathering at the UN," Pompeo told reporters on Tuesday.

"In response, I have written a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres requesting to know what measures the UN will take to respond to these actions and make sure that they do not happen again."

Last week, diplomats from Cuba were banging on tables and yelling during a meeting about helping political prisoners that was held at the UN, Fox news reported.

The meeting was part of a US-launched campaign dubbed "Jailed for What?" - a movement designed to boost the anti-government opposition in Cuba.
