Pompeo Holds Talks With Slovak Counterpart On Modernizing Military - US State Dept.

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th November, 2018) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak held a meeting to discuss bilateral security issues including Bratislava's efforts to modernize its military, State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a press release.

"They discussed the importance of US-Slovak bilateral relations...

[and] Slovakia's plans to modernize its military," Nauert said on Thursday.

Pompeo and Lajcak during their meeting held on Wednesday, Nauert added, also discussed the importance of maintaining sanctions on Russia and advancing the denuclearization of North Korea.

In October, the Slovak government approved a military plan that includes vows to boost defense spending contributions to NATO and the EU. The plan also calls for replacing USSR-made military equipment and Russian fighter jets with US-made products.
