SOCHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th May, 2019) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in a press briefing on Tuesday said talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Sochi were a good step towards improving relations between the two countries.

"[US President Donald] Trump made clear that his expectation is that we will have an improved relationship between our two countries. I think our talks here were a good step in that direction," Pompeo said during a joint press conference with Lavrov.

The United States, Pompeo added, stands ready to find common ground with Russia as long as both sides engage seriously on issues.
