Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko pledged on Tuesday that living standards in the country would rise "within three years maximum" due to economic growth resumption
KIEV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2019) Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko pledged on Tuesday that living standards in the country would rise "within three years maximum" due to economic growth resumption.
"Economic growth resumption makes it possible to recover the living standards, this is not a long-term perspective anymore but that of one, two, or three years maximum. This is when the overwhelming majority of our citizens will feel the impact of the reforms," Poroshenko said in his address dated to the Unity Day.
Poroshenko noted that Ukraine had chosen a European path of high living standards. He added that a range of important reforms set to raise the living standards had already been implemented.
European integration is the key priority of the Ukrainian foreign policy.
In November, the Ukrainian parliament passed a series of constitutional amendments defining joining the European Union and NATO as the country's key strategy.
In December 2014, the Ukrainian parliament voted to drop the country's non-aligned status and work toward NATO membership. However, last December, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze said that the dominant influence of populism in Ukraine's domestic politics would complicate the country's pursuit for European integration in 2019, and in January, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said that Ukraine was not ready to join the European Union and NATO within the next five years.
