Ukrainian ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is leading in the presidential race, with 15.9 percent saying they would vote for her in next year's election, a poll revealed on Friday.

Incumbent President Petro Poroshenko is trailing Tymoshenko, the leader of the right-wing Fatherland party, by 6.6 percentage points, an opinion poll by Ukraine's Sofia research center has found.

Former energy minister Yuriy Boyko can count on 8.8 percent of votes. Ex-defense chief Anatoliy Hrytsenko came fourth with 8.2 percent of votes, while rockstar Svyatoslav Vakarchuk finished last with 7.9 percent.

Ukrainians will go to the polls in early spring to elect a new president. Poroshenko is yet to announce his bid for a second term. An earlier poll by the Kiev Sociology Institute gave Tymoshenko a 7.4-point advantage over the sitting president.
