MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th April, 2019) The portfolio of orders for the Russian military equipment continues to grow despite sanctions and is currently estimated at $54.5 billion, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday, adding that 100 countries were engaged in defense industry cooperation with Moscow.
"The quality and reliability of our weapons are well-known in the world, that is why they are being targeted by various sanctions. Despite the sanctions, it is obvious that the portfolio of foreign orders for Russian military equipment continues to remain at a very high level. Now it is estimated at $54.5 billion. A hundred states are among Russia's partners," Medvedev said reporting to the lower house on the results of the Russian government's work.
Russia delivers its military equipment to many countries across the world despite the opposition from, most notably, the United States, which many believe seeks to promote its own defense shipments.
Washington, in particular, threatened Ankara with sanctions for possible acquisition of Russian S-400 air defense systems, and repeatedly said it may delay or cancel the process of selling the F-35 aircraft to Turkey, which is one of the participants in the US F-35 international program. Ankara, in its turn, has said that purchase of military equipment is its sovereign affair and ruled out the possibility of abandoning its plans. The first shipment of S-400 air defense systems is expected to be delivered to Ankara in July.
