SUKHUM (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd May, 2019) The press service of Abkhazian President Raul Khadzhimba clarified that the leader proposed to postpone the presidential election to August 25, and not to August 26, as an opposition spokesman earlier said.
"The head of state proposed to the opposition representatives a possibility of postponing the presidential election ... to August 25, 2019," the statement said.
Earlier Teimuraz Khishba, the leader of the national movement for the protection of Abkhazia's statehood said that the opposition of Abkhazia accepted the proposal of Khadzhimba to postpone the election to August 26.
The opposition has been holding protests near the building of the republic's parliament in Sukhum since Monday, demanding the resignation of Khadzhimba. The rallies began after the parliament refused the opposition's demand to postpone the presidential election from July 21 to fall due to a key opposition candidate falling ill.
