French prosecutors on Wednesday opened a probe into "menacing or intimidating actions against a judicial authority," following searches at the headquarters of La France Insoumise (Unsubmissive France) party when its leader was filmed pushing a person from the prosecutor's office, according to local media reports.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th October, 2018) French prosecutors on Wednesday opened a probe into "menacing or intimidating actions against a judicial authority," following searches at the headquarters of La France Insoumise (Unsubmissive France) party when its leader was filmed pushing a person from the prosecutor's office, according to local media reports.

The searches were carried out on Tuesday in a number of venues linked to the left-wing party, including its headquarters in Paris, in connection with two corruption probes launched by Paris prosecutors.

The new probe will concern "violence against the persons wielding public authority," the France Info broadcaster reported.

The party's leader Jean-Luc Melenchon and his supporters were reportedly barred from entering the party premises on Tuesday, and when they finally did make their way in, tempers flared.

The prosecutor's office is looking into Melenchon's election campaign accounts and at the alleged cases of fake employment linked to the party in the European Parliament.
