Process Of Getting US Visas In Russia Still Very Difficult - Zakharova

The process of obtaining US visas in Russia has not changed yet and is still being made as difficult as possible, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said Thursday.
"The situation with Russian citizens getting US visas hasn't changed at all, it's the same amount of time for the execution, especially in Moscow. One way or another, the US side complicated the process of obtainment of US visas by Russian citizens to the maximum," Zakharova said during a briefing.
On September 1, 2017, the United States dramatically decreased the number of embassy employees in Russia, in response to Russia's demand that the number of embassy personnel in the two countries be equal.
It was followed by the closure of the US Consulate in St. Petersburg and expulsion of 60 diplomats in March 2018 after the United States ordered the closure of the Russian Consulate in Seattle. This situation severely affected the speed at which Russians were able to get US visas. The appointment wait time at the US Embassy in Moscow is now 300 Calendar days.
