Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Iraqi counterpart Barham Ahmed Salih over the death of dozens of people in a ferry accident in the Tigris River
A tourist ferry with dozens of people aboard capsized in the Tigris River in Mosul earlier on Thursday.
According to preliminary data, the accident claimed over 70 lives and might have been caused by the excessive number of passengers. The second possiblecause for the accident is the increased water level in the Tigris River provoked by the opening of floodgates in the Mosul Dam.
"Dear Mr. President, please accept my deep condolences over the tragic consequences of the ferry crash in the Tigris River - the deaths of dozens of passengers, including many children and women," the telegram on the Kremlin website reads.
