MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th August, 2018) Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed on Saturday the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), known as the Iranian nuclear deal, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday.
"[The parties] discussed the JCPOA.
The situation around it is clear," Peskov told reporters without going into further details.
In May, US President Donald Trump announced that his country would exit the 2015 JCPOA, which stipulates the gradual lifting of the anti-Iran sanctions in exchange for Tehran maintaining the peaceful nature of its nuclear program. The remaining parties to the agreement have denounced the US move and committed themselves to preserving the deal.
