Putin to Meet With Kim on April 25 in Russia's Vladivostok - Kremlin Aide

Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will meet on April 25 in the eastern Russian city of Vladivostok, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said Tuesday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd April, 2019) Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will meet on April 25 in the eastern Russian city of Vladivostok, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said Tuesday.

"On April 25, in Vladivostok, our president will hold talks with Chairman of the State Council of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Jong Un, who will come to our country with a visit," Ushakov told reporters.

"This meeting will be the first contact between our president and the North Korean leader," the presidential aide added.

The talks will start tete-a-tete and then continue in the narrow and extended formats, Ushakov said.

"The talks will, of course, focus on a political and diplomatic solution to the nuclear problem of the Korean Peninsula," the official said.

The leaders do not plan to issue a joint statement or sign documents after the talks, Ushakov added.

The official stressed that the first stage of the Russian-Chinese road map on North Korea's settlement had already been implemented and it was time to progress to the second stage.

The Kremlin aide remarked that the situation on the Korean peninsula had lately stabilized.

"This became possible largely because of North Korea's initiative to stop missile and nuclear tests and to close down a nuclear facility," Ushakov said.

Russia sees that North Korea and the United States are ready to continue dialogue although the latest US-North Korean summit did not bring tangible results, Ushakov added.

"As far as we can see, both sides are still ready and interested to continue dialogue. We believe it is quite important, and this readiness and interest should be demonstrated in the future," the Kremlin aide said.

Ushakov reiterated Russia's commitment to contribute to the stability of the Korean Peninsula and said that the upcoming talks were one of the steps to achieve that.
