KALININGRAD (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 08th January, 2019) The construction of a regasification terminal in Kaliningrad became the first such project in Russia, it removes all transit risks, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday at the ceremony to commission a terminal to receive gas from a floating regasification platform in Kaliningrad.

"Today here in the Kaliningrad region, we are present at a very important event both for the Russian energy industry and for the provision of the Kaliningrad region and the entire region. This is the first such project in the Russian energy sector - the creation of a regasification terminal," Putin said.

"We all certainly understand, we know well that the delivery of a Primary energy resource such as natural gas to such distances and by pipe is a more economically viable method of delivery, which is cheaper, but for us, for the Kaliningrad region, in particular, this means, most likely, reserve capacities, which substantially minimize, to be more exact, remove all transit risks," he said.

Putin said the Kaliningrad region had become independent from Europe in the energy sphere.
