Reposts of Extremist Materials Not Crime If No Intent of Incitement -Russian Supreme Court

Thoughtless reposts of materials recognized as extremist is not a crime if there is no intent of incitement to hatred, Russian Supreme Court judge Vladimir Davydov said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2018) Thoughtless reposts of materials recognized as extremist is not a crime if there is no intent of incitement to hatred, Russian Supreme Court judge Vladimir Davydov said on Thursday.

"The Criminal Code of the Russian Federation does not provide for a liability for reposts, only incitement to hatred.

Even if a material is extremist and a person reposts it to his or her page, it does not say anything. It is necessary to prove the intent [of incitement to hatred]," Davydov told reporters.

The Supreme Court adopted the relevant decision of the plenum on Thursday.
