Results of Bavaria Election Demonstrate Loss of People's Trust in Politicians - Merkel

The results of parliamentary elections in the German southeastern state of Bavaria indicated that people have lost confidence in politicians, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th October, 2018) The results of parliamentary elections in the German southeastern state of Bavaria indicated that people have lost confidence in politicians, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday.

On Sunday, Bavaria held parliamentary election, CSU, the sister party of Merkel's Christian Democrats, came first with 37.2 percent of votes and thus will get 85 out of the Landtag's 205 seats and lose its ultimate authority in the region as well as the ability to independently form a coalition.

"The elections in Bavaria showed me that even with the best economic indicators and almost full employment in almost all parts of Bavaria, this is not enough for people, if there isn't what is important, and that is trust, trust in political players," Merkel said, as quoted by the n-tv broadcaster.

The chancellor noted she has learned her lesson from the recent loss and will work tirelessly to regain people's trust in the coalition that she co-chairs.

According to election results, CSU is trailed by the Greens with 17.5 percent (38 seats), the Free Voters party with 11.6 percent (27 seats), the Alternative for Germany (AfD) with 10.2 percent (22 seats), the Social Democratic Party of Germany with 9.7 percent (22 seats) and the Free Democratic Party 5.1 percent (11 seats).
