MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th September, 2018) Russia urges the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to prevent staged provocations with the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian northwestern province of Idlib, Russian Envoy to OPCW Alexander Shulgin said on Wednesday.
"It [OPCW] should say its weighty word, and should not allow this provocation. A number of delegations agreed with such stance. We stressed that we must do everything possible to avoid provocations," Shulgin told reporters.
On Tuesday, the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation said the filming of a staged provocation with the alleged use of chemical weapons had begun in the Idlib province. A Syrian human rights activist later told Sputnik that dozens of White Helmets' activists arrived from Turkey to Idlib in order to conduct a false flag operation. He said they had tanks containing an unknown gas with them. The Russian military said that the gas was a chlorine-based toxic substance.
