MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) Moscow calls on opposition groups in Syria's Idlib to separate themselves as soon as possible from the Nusra Front (terrorist group, banned in Russia), Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.
"The key task at the moment is to separate the opposition members who are ready to participate in the political process [in Syria], from the Nusra members, who are many in the Idlib zone and who are trying to run this zone," the minister said at a press conference with his Lebanese counterpart.
"Those opposition armed groups that are beginning to cooperate with Nusra should make very serious conclusions and as soon as possible," Lavrov said.
The minister expressed hope that Russia and Turkey in the near future would be able to come to an agreement on the issue.
"When I was in Ankara the other day, me and [Turkish Foreign] Minister Chavushoglu, agreed such a separation from the Nusra of the militants, who are ready to cooperate in resolving the crisis, is a priority," Lavrov said adding that he hoped that the agreement would be found in the coming days.
