Russia, China Interested in Success of US-Taliban Talks - Kabulov

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd March, 2019) Russia and China are interested in seeing talks between the United States and the Taliban succeed, Russian presidential envoy Zamir Kabulov said on Friday.

"We and China are interested that the US and Taliban would reach a successful deal as soon as possible," Kabulov told reporters, calling the negotiations a "crucial moment for further moving forward toward a sustainable peace in Afghanistan.

"

Kabulov said all the parties would be able to take further and more specific steps once the US agrees with the Taliban on a timetable for the withdrawal of foreign troops.

Such steps could include a ceasefire or other moves, such as direct talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban, Kabulov said.
