Russia, China May Finish Construction of Blagoveshchensk-Heihe Bridge in May - Engineer

The construction of the bridge across the Amur River connecting the Russian city of Blagoveshchensk and China's Heihe may be completed by the end of May, Liu Shuang, the chief engineer of the Heilongjiang Bridge Development and Construction Co. Ltd. told Sputnik

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th May, 2019) The construction of the bridge across the Amur River connecting the Russian city of Blagoveshchensk and China's Heihe may be completed by the end of May, Liu Shuang, the chief engineer of the Heilongjiang Bridge Development and Construction Co. Ltd. told Sputnik.

According to Liu, the construction of the Russian side is only 6-7 meters away from the Chinese side. Both sides would complete the connection of the bridge within one or two days.

"Connecting the bridge is a whole process. It doesn't mean that as soon as both sides are linked, the job is done. There must be a process of adjusting direction and height, as well tightening the screws, which would take a few more days.

At the moment, most of the work is focused on moving the steel girder of the bridge. Light rain showers at the scene have some impact on the work. But both sides are working together. The bridge could be completed by the end of May," the engineer said.

The construction of the bridge started in December 2016, with Russia investing 14 billion rubles ($214 million) and China providing about $80 million.

In January, Vasily Orlov, the governor of Russia's Amur Region, said that the bridge would open in spring 2020.
