MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th March, 2019) Russia is concerned over foreign attempts to destabilize the political situation in Algeria and speaks against any interference in the Algerian affairs, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Tuesday.
Algeria has been recently hit by a wave of mass protests against long-time President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who intended to run for his fifth consecutive term in the next presidential election. The leader eventually revoked his bid, but the protests continued.
"Surely, we are concerned about the events happening in your country now. We see attempts to destabilize the situation and resolutely oppose any interference in the political process," Lavrov said at talks with his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra.
