MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd October, 2018) Russia considers it premature to assess the parliamentary election held in Afghanistan, but Moscow noted critical reports regarding the organization of the vote, Zamir Kabulov, Russian president's special envoy to Afghanistan, told Sputnik on Monday.
"It is the Afghan people who must recognize or not recognize the results of the election. But it is too early to draw any conclusions, as it was officially announced that preliminary results would be published in November. So now we have nothing to say. We are waiting for the results, and also reading and hearing many critical remarks.
Both regarding organization [of the electoral process], and violations," Kabulov said.
Afghan parliamentary election was held in all but two provinces of the country over the weekend amid threats from the Taliban movement. A number of polling stations failed to open due to technical issues and several attacks across the country.
The voting has become the first parliamentary election in Afghanistan since 2010. In 2016, the election was postponed over unstable security situation in the country.
