Russia Embassy in UK Grateful to Young UK Citizen for Alleged Aid to Skripals in Salisbury

The Russian Embassy in London is grateful to UK citizen Abigail McCourt, 16, for her alleged aid to unconscious former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury, if she really did that, a spokesperson for the embassy told Sputnik on Monday

LONDON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st January, 2019) The Russian Embassy in London is grateful to UK citizen Abigail McCourt, 16, for her alleged aid to unconscious former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury, if she really did that, a spokesperson for the embassy told Sputnik on Monday.

On Sunday, UK media reported that McCourt saw collapsed Skripals on a bench in Salisbury on March 5 and, along with her mother, provided them with first aid.

"If this information is correct, we would like to express sincere admiration and gratitude to Abigail for the rescue of two our compatriots," the spokesperson said.

At the same time, the embassy pointed out that this information was not official and could not be verified.

"Moreover, presence at the site of the incident of Abigail and her mother - chief nursing officer of the UJK army, Col. Alison McCourt - is one more extraordinary coincidence in the Skripal affair. It is also unclear, why this, honestly speaking, substantive information was issued only 10 months after the incident," the spokesperson said.

He pointed out that Russia would continue to demand all the details of the incident in Salisbury, access to Sergei and Yulia Skripal as well as start of really transparent investigation based on cooperation instead of classification of information.

On March 4, 2018, the Skripals were found unconscious on a bench at a shopping center in Salisbury. London said they were poisoned with a military-grade nerve agent. London accused Moscow of staging the attack, saying it suspected Russian nationals Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov of performing the attack and of working for the Russian intelligence.

However, Moscow has repeatedly noted that London has not provided any evidence proving Russian role in the poisoning. Petrov and Boshirov, in turn, denied their involvement in the attack in an interview with the RT broadcaster. They said that while they did visit Salisbury in the spring, they had come as tourists, further noting that they worked for the fitness industry.
