Russia Foreign Ministry Says Received Kiev's Note on Non-Renewal of Friendship Treaty

Russia has received Ukraine's note on non-renewal of the Russian-Ukrainian Friendship Treaty, the document will cease to have effect on April 1, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Second CIS Department Director Andrey Rudenko said on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 25th September, 2018) Russia has received Ukraine's note on non-renewal of the Russian-Ukrainian Friendship Treaty, the document will cease to have effect on April 1, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Second CIS Department Director Andrey Rudenko said on Tuesday.

Although it does not actually change anything, since the decree [Ukrainian President Petro] Poroshenko has covered the issue, nevertheless, it is a formal report that the treaty will cease to have effect starting April 1," Rudenko said.

The diplomat noted that Russia regretted Ukraine's decision not to renew the treaty.

"We, of course, deeply regret what has recently happened - Ukraine's decision not to prolong the significant treaty with Russia," Rudenko said.
