Russia needs to ensure that gifted people stay in the country and therefore, it should do everything possible to provide such people with opportunities to develop their potential in domestic institutions and research centers, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said Saturday.
"We are not just interested, but we really need to retain our talents and make efforts to provide them with opportunities to demonstrate their potential in our country, in national universities and research centers," the ambassador said at the 9th annual conference of the Russian-US science association RASA-America in Washington.
The diplomat added that Russia attached great importance to facilitating research and creating favorable conditions for scientific discoveries.
Over the past years, funding of scientific programs has significantly increased, Antonov said.
At the same time, Russia is open to international scientific exchange and joint research, the ambassador pointed out.
"We will make all possible efforts to have talented people from all over the world come to Russia," Antonov added.
The RASA-America conference brings together leading Russian and foreign scientists to discuss the development and international engagement of the Russian scientific community in modern research. This year's event is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of birth of outstanding Russian-US engineer, inventor and pioneer of television Vladimir Zworykin.
