Russia is ready to instantly launch negotiations with Japan on the long-expected bilateral peace treaty, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said on Wednesday.
VLADIVOSTOK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th September, 2018) Russia is ready to instantly launch negotiations with Japan on the long-expected bilateral peace treaty, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested signing a peace treaty between Moscow and Tokyo until the end of the year without any preconditions.
"We are ready, but it will depend on the readiness of our Japanese friends ... We are ready to begin it without delay," Morgulov told reporters at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Russia's Vladivostok.
At the same time, the work on the achievement of a bilateral peace treaty has never been ceased and is steadily continuing, the official noted.
"We are continuing the negotiation process with Japan on a permanent basis. It has not stopped, so, of course, we will continue it, including on the basis of a proposal made by the president ... The logic is that [Putin's proposal] will create an atmosphere necessary for solving complex problems in our relations," Morgulov added.
