Russia, South Korea Agree to Step Up Cooperation on Korean Peace - Foreign Ministry

Russia and South Korea will ramp up cooperation and look at options for joint action on the Korean peace process, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) Russia and South Korea will ramp up cooperation and look at options for joint action on the Korean peace process, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

This came after a meeting in Seoul between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and South Korea's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon.

"It was agreed to deepen coordination between Russia and South Korea, including working on joint steps on the path toward Korean settlement," a statement by the Russian ministry read.

US national security adviser John Bolton said earlier this month that President Donald Trump believed he needed to have a second meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to move ahead with denuclearization. The new summit could take place in January or February, the aide said.
