Russia's embassy in Nigeria is making efforts to help an RT crew whose IDs were taken away by the local migration authority, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.
The journalists were working on a story about ecology last week when they were accused of having a wrong type of visa and filming without a permit.
"That's what the Nigerian authorities say. But the Russian journalists met all requirements for working officially in the country ... Our embassy in Nigeria is taking active steps to settle the issue," she told reporters.
A note of protest was lodged with the Nigerian Foreign Ministry, the spokeswoman said.
Russia is closely monitoring the situation and will summon the Nigerian ambassador in Moscow if no progress is made soon, Zakharova warned.
