Russia To Inspect French Military Site Under Vienna Document On Tuesday - Official

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st August, 2018) A group of Russian inspectors will carry out on Tuesday a military activity assessment at a site of the French armed forces under the Vienna Document on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures, the head of Russia's National Nuclear Risk Reduction Center, Sergei Ryzhkov, said on Monday.

"Inspectors will visit a French military site in its normal peacetime location," Ryzhkov said, adding that the French command would provide information on the personnel, military hardware and equipment deployed in the area.

Ryzhkov clarified that such mutual inspections are conducted to verify the scope of military activities on the territory of the signatories to the document.

The Vienna Document is aimed at confidence and security building in Europe and envisages Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) member states providing each other with information on their armed forces, defense planning and military budget details, as well as exchanging military observers and carrying out inspections.
