Russia will sign a deal within a week on renting the Syrian sea port of Tartus for 49 years in order to use it for trade and economic purposes, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said on Saturday, following a meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad
Borisov, who is also a co-chairman of the Russian-Syrian intergovernmental commission, is currently on his working visit to Syria.
"The key issue that should trigger a positive dynamic is the use of the Tartus port. The visit has cemented all these arrangements. We have made good progress on this issue and hope that the contract will be signed within a week, and for 49 years the port of Tartus will be used by Russian business," Borisov told reporters.
