The Russian-Turkish agreement on stabilizing the Syrian province of Idlib provides space for finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria, US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook said on Wednesday.
WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2018) The Russian-Turkish agreement on stabilizing the Syrian province of Idlib provides space for finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria, US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook said on Wednesday.
"We do have now this agreement in Idlib that gives us some space to try to make some progress on the political track," Hook said during Remarks at Hudson Institute in Washington, DC, when asked about Iran's activity in Syria.
The US diplomat emphasized that removing Iranian forces from Syria remains a priority for the US.
"All forces under Iran's command need to get out of Syria. This is our requirement," he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday agreed in Sochi to create by October 15 a demilitarized zone along the contact line of the armed opposition and government troops in the Syrian province of Idlib, and the defense ministers of the two countries signed a memorandum on stabilizing the situation in the province's de-escalation zone.
