Russia-Turkey Idlib Deal Has 10 Points, Presidents Explained Them Almost Fully - Source

The memorandum on the stabilization of the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone signed on Monday between Russia and Turkey consists of 10 points, its content was almost fully explained at a joint press conference of the Russian and Turkish presidents, a source in one of the delegations told Sputnik Tuesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th September, 2018) The memorandum on the stabilization of the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone signed on Monday between Russia and Turkey consists of 10 points, its content was almost fully explained at a joint press conference of the Russian and Turkish presidents, a source in one of the delegations told Sputnik Tuesday.

The source said that in the document the parties declared an intention to set up a demilitarized zone in the Syrian province of Idlib by October 15 with withdrawal of heavy weaponry belonging to the militants by October 10.

Russian military police and Turkish forces will be patrolling the demilitarized zone in Idlib along the contact line between the armed opposition and the government troops. The transit along the Aleppo-Latakia and Aleppo-Hama highways is expected to be restored no later than by the end of 2018.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a meeting in Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi, which lasted almost 4.5 hours. The Russian and Turkish defense ministers signed a memorandum on Idlib settlement.
