Russia Welcomes Geneva Initiative's Efforts to Find Solution to Palestinian Issue - Lavrov

The Russian Foreign Ministry welcomes efforts by the Israeli-Palestinian Geneva Initiative to help find a solution to the Palestinian issue, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a meeting with the leadership of the group on Thursday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2019) The Russian Foreign Ministry welcomes efforts by the Israeli-Palestinian Geneva Initiative to help find a solution to the Palestinian issue, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a meeting with the leadership of the group on Thursday.

"We know about your views and aspirations for peace in a very important part of the middle East. We support your continued attention, taking into account your experience and suggestions, in facilitating the search for a solution to the Palestinian issue so that Israel, Palestine, and all other countries of this region live in peace and security," Lavrov said.

According to the minister, "the efforts made in the past few years to advance the peace process are not very impressive."

"Both you and we know the details. It will be useful for us to know your assessments of the situation and to hear out your bright ideas on this issue," he added.

The Israeli-Palestinian peace process has become a global priority involving international mediators. The Middle East Quartet, consisting of the United Nations, the United States, Russia and the European Union, has been active since 2002. Several plans for resolving the conflict by political and diplomatic means and programs set have been advanced.

The Geneva Initiative was created in 2003 by a group of high-profile Israelis and Palestinians, which drafted an agreement that would settle the status of Palestine and put an end to the decades-old conflict. The draft document was based on the results of previous negotiations, resolutions and roadmaps, including that of the Middle East Quartet.
