Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Egyptian Ambassador Discuss Upcoming Russia-Africa Summit

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov met on Thursday with Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Ihab Ahmed Talaat Nasr to discuss preparations for the Russia-Africa summit, scheduled for October, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st March, 2019) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov met on Thursday with Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Ihab Ahmed Talaat Nasr to discuss preparations for the Russia-Africa summit, scheduled for October, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"In light of Egypt's 2019 chairmanship of the African Union, [the parties] discussed the issues of coordination of efforts on preparing the Russia-Africa summit that will be held in Sochi in October," the statement said.

Bogdanov and Nasr also exchanged opinions about the situation in the middle East and North Africa with a focus on the Syrian and Libyan conflicts.

The idea to hold the first Russia-Africa summit was voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the BRICS meeting in Johannesburg in July 2018. The summit will be held in the resort city of Sochi in late October.
