Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, OIC Representative Discuss Anti-Terror Fight - Moscow
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov and Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Abdullah Alim discussed on Friday international cooperation in countering terrorism and extremism, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"On November 9, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov met with the delegation of the OIC General Secretariat headed by Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Abdullah Alim," the ministry said in a statement.
The two sides also exchanged assessments of terrorist threats in different parts of the world, especially in the Middle East, and decided to strengthen bilateral cooperation, according to the ministry.
"It was agreed to further expand cooperation between Russia and the OIC in countering terrorism and other international security challenges bilaterally and at key international forums," the ministry added.
Founded in 1969, the OIC is an international organization that unites 57 Muslim majority nations. The OIC is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations. Russia has observer status in the OIC.
